Fall is officially here

I know that I shouldn't but I love fall. I love the crisp mornings when I see frost on the ground - esp this year with all the fall allergy craziness. The smell of chocolate is strong on the frosty mornings. YUMM! The colors ranging from green, yellow, orange and that deep orangy red of the maple trees. The crunch of the leaves under my feet and being able to wear sweatshirts.

I have had a very slow crafting week. Of course it didn't help that I was sick and actually worked from home all week. :-( I'm glad I have the option but it was a very bad work time for me to be out.

This weekend I have found that I really missed my 15 mins of sewing/crafting. I had been averaging that most of the last few weeks. And it's not for lack of projects. More of lack of energy to start one. On Saturday I tried to layout a project and I just wasn't feeling it. Loved the fabric and thought it would work when I was at the store. Coming home it just wasn't working for me - I see something else for the blocks but I'm not sure what. :-(

I still having found *the* project I want to make. Well there is one but I don't have the fabric needed to make it work - I have 3/4 of what I need and the last 1/4 is where the work is. lol story of my life it seems.

Today I actually had a short urge to go to the scrapbook room. Thinking about the state of the area did me in. It's going to take a bit to get things back in order. My urge was to scrap so organizing and cleaning wouldn't have helped.

Organizing is in order in all areas of my house. 15 mins in each would take to long and I don't know where to start. Having a sparkling kitchen sink doesn't help or inspire me. I read somewhere that the bedroom is the best place to start. This week we did a deep clean in the bedroom and I've yet to move the accessories back in. I admit that I'm liking the clean look ie no jewelry box, dish, or socks on top of my dresser. Actually there are some quilts stacked on it right now and I do like that look. Something different for awhile anyway.

.... Sunday night is such a harsh mistress sometimes. Seems like the last 3 hours fly by and it's after 10 PM CST before I know it. Today it didn't help that the dogs didn't have supper till 8:30 ..... what a day - lots accomplished and for the most part got done what I/we needed to.

Toile and Turmoil

that's the summary of my day. On my drive into work I had a feeling I'd be better off if I didn't really talk to anyone.

Scene one the going away pizza lunch. Three of us were buying pizza for lunch with a friend (A) who's leaving the company. Another friend (E) didn't realize A was leaving so I asked if she wanted to be included in lunch. Who would've thought it would start a cat fight? One lady (K) was instantly POd. I told her it's ok E won't mind. K threw a little fit that she didn't want to do it and that E could take her place. .... I was just trying to be nice ....

Scene two the project meeting. I have a project manager who's a yes man. Seriously the meeting was so out of control. No one was making a decision and the company co owner was getting very confused and ticked off. I bit my tongue as much as possible. I spent almost a year leading these meetings and they were NEVER this chaotic even when the three strong personalities were involved.

Scene three .... the hubby and I are tired, cranky, getting sick and well that's never a good combo. Add the puppy who chews on things and it's really not good. :)

Scene four, I decided I should update our phone software while we were watching TV. My phone updated fine. It was getting late but I decided to start hubby's. That was a huge mistake. The install failed and when I finally got it to work he had no contacts and nothing worked. Thank goodness his pics were still there. I had to tell him what happened and he was extremely unhappy. Finally found the auto backup and got that reinstalled. He's got his email, contacts and facebook back. Still need to figure out how to get his apps back. They are in the download folder but not available on the phone. UGH! that's a problem for tomorrow.

So I'm blowing off this bad voodoo (one of the first spell check words was Vodka, that's sounding pretty good right now, hehehehe) and know that I'm going to have a great day tomorrow err today didn't realize it was this late. It is Friday after all. :)

Two quilting UFOs finished

I was so excited to have a nice & quiet weekend at home. So much so that I almost slept through lunch on Saturday. Good thing my hubby loves me and says if you slept that long it must mean you needed it. I was very happy that the Hawks didn't play until Saturday night. I did not like the ending. :(

On to my projects. I felt the groove to sew and pulled out the charm pack I picked up a few weeks ago to make a quilt for my mom. I searched for ideas and nothing jumped out. So I decided to go with sewing the squares together. And I mixed them all up in a bag and pulled them out randomly. That is huge for me. :)

Over the weekend I got the top with borders stitched up. And after talking with my mom realized that she wants a real quilt, not a light quilt. So when I finished with the borders I folded it up nicely and added it to my quilting box. It's in line after three other quilts. :)

Over the last few weeks I've been working on either a Christmas gift or something for me. It's a quilt project of my own design, a table square - kind of a table runner but just a square. ... I stitched up random red squares and stitched the strips together. Added a red border, and a black with white and red polka dots border (used that for the back too). Layered everything up and then did my first hand quilting project. I stitched Mickey heads on to the quilt and one M. In my original design I was going to stitch a black Mickey head over part of the quilt. Now that it's done and bound I'm not sure. If the sun ever comes out then I'll get some pics and post them. Finished project #1.

Here's the front, you can kind of see the quilting....

Here's the back, I love how the red variegated thread sticks out.

For my last weekend project I finally finished one of my early projects. Its a rails quilt in pastel colors that I backed with flannel. I've been struggling with how to quilt the border and finally decided just to go with strips since that's what the quilt is made of. I did another first and wrapped the back to the front for the binding. That was kind of fun! Finished project #2.

I can't wait to wash my projects to see how they turn out. I have been curling up under my quilt. It's the perfect weight for this time of year. My only wish is that it was two feet longer. It works for a lap quilt and now I get to make something else. :)

Tonight I started another new project. A table runner with the partial charm pack I had. It involves more cutting than I like but I'm getting kind of tired of sewing all the 5" squares together.

Completed projects: 4
UFOs: 5
Recently started: 1

remembering....

"Time is passing. Yet, for the United States of America, there will be no forgetting September the 11th. We will remember every rescuer who died in honor. We will remember every family that lives in grief. We will remember the fire and ash, the last phone calls, the funerals of the children.”

~President George W. Bush

9 years ago today we woke up on the first day of our honeymoon to the horrors of planes crashing into buildings. When I first saw the images I thought it was a movie and turned off the tv because I didn't want to watch such a tragedy during such a happy time.

.....

remembering with sadness those who were lost, the heros of the day and the survivors, all of us who need to remember.

Happy 9th Wedding Anniversary!

I find it hard to believe that this is the eve of our 9th wedding anniversary. Some days it feels like we've been together for ages and other like it was just yesterday. Either way it's all good.

We tried to have fun with our wedding and I still have good memories of that day.

Only a couple of glitches but my handy family worked them all out. Dad ironed my wedding dress (oops) at my mom's house while we left for the rehearsal. The handle broke off of my bouquet and my brother found a pencil to use instead - luckily the photographer had some white duct tape to cover it. :) My oldest nephew had the wrong size shirt and I was adamant that my sister in law call the tux shop because they screwed up - the bride was right.

Those are some of my favorite memories. Others include my dad taking pictures of Boyd and I looking at the clock several minutes before the wedding. He was the best scrapping buddie when it came to picture ideas! Having Dad sing one of my favorite songs is another precious memory. Watching my nephews with the John Deere pedal tractor - seeing J pedal and N reach out to steer. Then seeing J grab the stuffed penguin out of the wagon and run to his mom. Awww.

Most of all I remember trying NOT to look into Boyd's eyes when I said certain parts of the vows because I knew we would both start laughing uncontrollably. It happened in the rehearsal - seriously we tried saying them for 20-30 mins.

Of course we had the Unity candle nightmare - they really should make you try it during the rehearsal! We dripped too much wax on the candle and I ended up putting mine down. Boyd was bound and determined to light it....he did :)

The reception and dance was so fun, I remember sitting back and just watching everything going on and smiling. The first dance...we tried to two step for about 4 turns and after tripping on my dress and getting dizzy decided to just dance.

The father daughter dance....my dad wasn't there. It wasn't until the middle of the song that I realized he went to take a sunset picture for me. I danced the first dance with my brother in law Loyd. Later they played the song again so Dad and I could dance. I hope that I never forget him singing the words to Butterfly Kisses to me and getting too choked up to finish.

Happy Anniversary Boydie!

I love you!

Secret Sister blues

Meeting tonight and I was excited to see how my secret sister liked her gift. Imagine my surprise when she got 2 gifts. I talked to the person in charged and was shocked to find I had the other X. Now how to figure out if she got a gift tonight? I thought I saw one at her chair but I'm not positive.

Plus this throws off my whole gift giving plan. I'm not sure if the other stuff in my stash will work for the new X. sigh....

It makes me wonder if it's time for me to say good bye to this group. I have fun with them and also feel like a third wheel at times. We are at very different stages in our lives. I graduated with one of the ladies daughters... They are expecting grandchildren and I'm still hoping for children.

There are several wonderful people I've met through sorority and I know that I will remain friends with a few of them. This is one of the hard parts of life. I feel like I'm in the group just to be in the group.

Have you ever had one of those days?

The kind where you wake up late and as you’re doing your last mirror check and asking your husband if you look OK? He replies with “You look good for getting ready so fast”. I don’t know about you but it stopped me dead in my tracks and I just looked at him. Took him a second to realize that I wasn’t happy, I actually saw the thoughts go through his head. What did I say that’s making her look at me like this? Then the Oh crap she’s not talking she’s really ticked – especially when the hand went to my hip. This went on for several seconds.

Of course I must tell you that hubby’s glasses suck and he can only see up close out of one eye through the glasses and to see he has to raise his eyebrow….can you picture it yet? Reminds me of some kind of cartoon bird and I always want to laugh.

So he’s looking at me like that and says what’s wrong. This whole time I’m trying to figure out how I want to word what I’m going to say. Trying not to laugh at his look. (And yes in the back of my head I knew he meant it as a compliment, just one of those days where I had to keep him on his toes).

I finally say, do you realize what you said? “You look good for getting ready so fast, like it’s not as good as usual but its good enough for going to work.” I could see the relief wash over him. He chuckled and said you took it out of context. Um yeah that was out of context. He did his little sigh and said “Honey, you look beautiful. It looks like you spent a lot more time than you did getting ready.”

I love this man - crazy as he is and even though sometimes he speaks without his “I’m talking to my wife” filter like this morning.

Getting in the car and seeing a cappuccino made my day. 53* I needed a little something to warm me up. The drive in was interesting, in general I don’t like leaving home after 6:15. That’s when the mad rush starts and at 6:30 (this morning) it’s the “Oh crap I’m going to be late for work” kind of drivers.

The drive out to the Avenue of the Saints was pretty typical. I got my first glimpse of the creamy pumpkin orange sun. It’s the color I associate with the sun in fall. YUM! Between the temps and the sun it made me hungry for pancakes. Some days I wish I had time for a cooked breakfast in the morning. Then I think of getting up before 5 AM and think it’s not worth it.

I get to the 'scary' intersection (lots of accidents happen there) and I notice there’s an arch way of fog stretching over the road. On the sides the fog was glistening. Going Disne.y on you, it was like the fairies were out adding the dew drops and the sun was sparkling off their wings. It was enchanting and mystical. As I passed under the arch I felt a change in myself – like all the stress was drained, my mind cleared and I knew this was going to be a great day.
